Denis is one of the two children our student ministry supports. He is living in the hills of Honduras, and is 10 years old. His birthday is June 14th. Denis's responsibilities at home include making the beds and running errands. He is going to school, and enjoys playing ball games and marbles, and likes cars. Both of his parents are alive and living with him. His typical school year runs from February to November.
Although there isn't a "state" religion in Honduras, there is a Roman catholic influence. Denis attends bible classes thanks to support he gets from us.

Staple foods are rice, beef, beans, and tamales. Want to try a Honduran style dish? Here's a popular recipe:
2 ripe plantains
1 jalapeno chili, seeded and sliced in thin rings
2 Tbl. butter, more if needed
1/2 cup sour cream, room temperature
Peel plantains and cut into quarters. Cut each quarter in half lengthwise. Sauté plantains and chilies in butter over medium heat, turning frequently. Remove when browned. Drizzle sour cream over plantains. Serves four.

Music And Games of Honduras
Music
Honduran music has a folk style with a Spanish beat and uses guitars and marimbas. Honduran folk music is played during traditional Honduran celebrations. However, Hondurans prefer music from Mexico or the United States, in different rhythms.
Groups like Khaoticos, and El Pop are popular.
Sports And Games
Soccer is the main sport in Honduras. Baseball, volleyball and basketball are also popular. Children play a game similar to "jacks" using stones.
